Restaurant Etiquette

When you are at your favorite restaurant, you may feel the urge to order your favorite entrée, plus an appetizer, plus a cocktail, plus a dessert, and then munch on some bread while you wait. By exercising a little self control, you can beat these demons.
Place the bread basket at the opposite end of the table, or ask the waiter not to bring bread if you just can't say no. Skip the appetizer or, if you are truly hungry, get a small side salad. Don’t' order an alcoholic beverage – alcohol is full of empty calories and can make you forget your desire to control yourself. Split an entrée with someone else at the table. Or, immediately divid the portion in half and move the unwanted half to the other side of your plate. Get a take away carton to take the rest home or don’t take it home to avoid temptation tomorrow. Dessert is a trap at restaurants: wait until you get home and have a low fat ice cream.
